Occasional Cookbook Reviews — Michael Chiarello’s Casual Cooking

There are a lot of advantages to eating in on Valentine’s Day.  The first is that it’s often fun and romantic to cook together.  And at least in DC, most restaurants won’t allow you to bring in that fabulous special-occasion bottle of wine.  So why not make something special at home?  If you enjoy cooking it can be at least as good as something you’ll get out, and you get to pick the music and the decor.

The trick is finding recipes that are tasty, elegant-looking, and easy enough for this year’s Tuesday Valentine’s Day.  Over at Lauren DeSantis’s Capital Cooking blog I talk about one of my favorite cookbooks that fits the bill — Michael Chiarello’s Casual Cooking.  And in case you need convincing to buy the book, I got Chef Chiarello’s permission to reprint a recipe that’s perfect for a Valentine’s Day meal.
